Track list
Recorded in Rome on 27 July 1977—and originally released on the legendary
Italian jazz label, Horo—this essential Max Roach double album has never been
reissued until now! Here Roach is joined by Cecil Bridgewater on trumpet, Billy
Harper on tenor sax, and Reggie Workman on bass—and while this is a stellar
session all around, Workman’s bass playing is simply jaw-dropping. However, it
is Roach himself who ultimately steals the show, performing some calisthenics
on the drums that will literally send chills down your spine! During this period—
when he wasn’t busy touring Europe—Roach could usually be found making history with his groundbreaking
percussion orchestra, M’Boom.
Track list – SIDE A: 1. The Martyr – part I SIDE B: 1. The Martyr – Part II SIDE C: 1. Six Bits Blues – part I SIDE D: 1.
Six Bits Blues – part II
