Description
The Finnish composer Leevi Madetoja wrote his three symphonies (between 1915 and 1926) in the wake of Sibelius. According to the Gramophone critic Ivan March, the Third Symphony is lighter in feeling and texture than Madetoja’s earlier symphonies and is more ecclectic in its influences. Its finale opens solemnly, but soon introduces an ironically flimsy waltz; however, the brief final section makes for a resolution that is both intriguing and satisfying.
